ADAM1cia28

ADAM1cia28

An ADAMs family protein encoded by ADAM28 on chromosome 8p21.2, which is expressed on lymphocytes in two transcript variants based on alternative splicing—a shorter secreted isoform, and a longer transmembrane isoform. ADAM28 is thought to play a role in adhesive and proteolytic events that occur during lymphocyte emigration and may be involved in ectodomain shedding of lymphocyte surface target proteins, such as FASL and CD40L. Cleavage is inhibited by TIMP-3 and TIMP-4.
