ileocaecal valve A smooth muscle ring (sphincter) at the point at which the small intestine ends and the large intestine begins. The caecum is the dilated first part of the colon. This valve exercises some control over the movement of intestinal contents from the part concerned mainly with digestion and absorption and the part concerned mainly with water retention. |
