Beadle, George Wells (1903-) American geneticist. With Edward Tatum, he began the modern study of biochemical genetics using the red bread mould Neurospora crassa. They investigated nutritional mutants (AUXOTROPHS) in the fungus, and coined the ONE GENE/ONE ENZYME HYPOTHESIS.Beadle, George Wells, joint winner of 1958 Nobel Prize for work related to genetics. |
