Hennock, Frieda B. (Barkin)

(1904–60) lawyer, public official; born in Kovel, Poland. Emigrating from Poland at age ten, she became a criminal lawyer at age 21, later joining a New York City corporate law firm. The first female member of the Federal Communications Commission (1948–55), she worked to reserve television channels for educational programming. She practiced law in Washington afterward.
