HPX A gene on chromosome 11p15.5-p15.4 that encodes haemopexin, a plasma glycoprotein and one of the so-called acute phase proteins, which binds heme with high affinity. Haemopexin transports heme from the plasma to the liver for breakdown and iron recovery, after which the free haemopexin returns to the circulation. it may be involved in protecting cells from oxidative stress.HPX
