Synonym(s): musculus hyoglossus [TA] , hyoglossal muscle, hyoglossus. hyoglossus muscleA sheet of muscle extending up from the hyoid bone to the ipsilateral base and sides of the tongue. It depresses the sides of the tongue and is innervated by cranial nerve XII (hypoglossal nerve).
