Gould, Morton Gould, Morton(1913– ) composer, pianist, conductor; born in New York City. In the 1930s and 1940s Gould worked as pianist and conductor of popular and light-classical music at Radio City Music Hall and National Broadcasting Company radio, among other jobs, meanwhile writing his nationalistic, often jazz-influenced works, including the American Symphonette series and the well-known ballet Fall River Legend (1948). He guest-conducted many orchestras, specializing in American music. |
