Gottschalk, Alfred

(1930– ) rabbi, educator; born in Oberwesel, Germany. He came to the U.S.A. in 1939 and was ordained at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles in 1957, where he then was dean (1959–71). In 1971 he became president of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He belonged to a number of Jewish, academic, and civic organizations including the Zionist Organization of America and the American Civil Liberties Union.
