When Saddam Hussein was the leader of Iraq, many prisoners were tortured and killed there. After the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the prison was used by the US army. In 2004, the US television programme, 60 Minutes, produced photographs showing American soldiers physically abusing (abuse) Iraqi prisoners held at Abu Ghraib prison.
