1650–60; <Latin redhibitiōn- (stem of redhibitiō), equivalent to redhibit(us), past participle of redhibēre to return (an item bought), take back (an item sold) (red-red- + -hib(ēre), combining form of habēre to have + -itus-ite2) + -iōn--ion
