Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish carnitas.
Etymology: < Mexican Spanish carnitas, plural (mid 20th cent. or earlier) < carne carne n. + -ita , diminutive suffix (see -et suffix1).
With singular and plural agreement. In Mexican cookery: braised or roasted pork served shredded in small pieces, often as a filling in tacos, burritos, etc.
