Medicine.
The tuberous root of an East Indian plant (apparently Curcuma aromatica Salisb., C. Zedoaria Roxb.); it is warm, bitter and aromatic, smells like ginger, and is used in hysterical, epileptic and paralytic affections. (Cf. zedoary n.)
