单词 | canavanine |
释义 | canavaninen. Biochemistry. A toxic amino acid which occurs primarily in the seeds of some leguminous plants where it acts as a nitrogen source for the embryo and a defence against consumption by herbivores.Canavanine is (2S)-2-amino-4-{[(diaminomethylidene)amino]oxy}butanoic acid, (NH2)C(NH2)NOCH2CH(NH2)COOH. The naturally-occurring l-form can be mistakenly incorporated into proteins in place of l-arginine, forming non-functioning proteins. The consumption of l-canavanine has been linked to lupus-like symptoms.
