单词 affined
释义

affinedadj.1

Brit. /əˈfʌɪnd/, U.S. /əˈfaɪnd/
Forms: 1500s–1600s 1800s– affined, 1600s affyned.
Origin: A borrowing from French, combined with an English element. Etymons: French affiné , affiner , -ed suffix1.
Etymology: < Middle French affiné related, similar (second half of the 14th cent.; use as adjective of past participle of affiner to be similar to (something), to resemble (something) (although this is first attested later in finite forms or as infinitive: late 15th cent.) < affin affine adj.), with substitution of -ed suffix1 for the ending. Compare earlier affine n. and later affine adj.Sense 2 may show an extended use (not paralleled in French). However, the Oxford Shakespeare edition (ed. M. Neill, 2006) 199 emends the First Folio reading of quot. a1616 to assign'd , the reading of the First Quarto (compare assign v. 6, assign v. 7), noting that ‘the word has specifically military resonances and is consistent with the bitter quibbling on Iago's rank’.
