Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Affenpinscher.
Etymology: < German Affenpinscher (1859 or earlier) < Affe monkey (see ape n.) + Pinscher pinscher n., so called on account of the resemblance of its head to that of a monkey.
A toy breed of terrier-like dog developed in Germany and having a rough shaggy coat, ancestral to and resembling the Brussels griffon; a dog of this breed.
