Origin: Of multiple origins. A borrowing from Latin. Apparently also partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin cammaratus ; Latin camera , -ate suffix1.
Etymology: Originally < post-classical Latin cammaratus (1530 in the passage translated in quot. 1543) < classical Latin camara camera n. + -ātus -ate suffix1; compare post-classical Latin camerare (see camerate v.). In later use apparently re-formed < classical Latin camera camera n. + -ate suffix1. Compare earlier chambered adj. 1a and later camerated adj. 3, cameration n. 2.
