Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin capitosus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin capitosus big-headed (from 10th cent. in British glossarial sources; adopted in scientific Latin as a specific name (1837)), headstrong (frequently from 13th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin capit- , caput head (see caput n.) + -ōsus -ose suffix1.
rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
