Etymology: < French callovien (A. D'Orbigny, 1850 or earlier) < post-classical Latin Calloviensis (1817 or earlier; < a Latinized form of the name of Kellaways (given by d'Orbigny as Kelloway ; see Kellaways n.) + classical Latin -ēnsis -ese suffix); compare -ian suffix. Compare Kellovian adj. and earlier Kellaways n.

Designating a stage of the Jurassic between the Oxfordian in the Upper Jurassic and the Bathonian in the Middle Jurassic; of or relating to this stage, or to the period of time during which its rocks were deposited.
