Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French calligramme.
Etymology: < French calligramme (1918 in the title of a work containing such texts by the poet Guillaume Apollinaire (compare quot. 1976); < calli- (in calligraphie calligraphy n.) + -gramme (in idéogramme ideogram n.)), with remodelling of the ending after formations in -gram comb. form.
A word or piece of text in which the form and layout of the letters creates a pictorial or ornamental design, esp. one related to the meaning of the words themselves.
