单词 calla
释义

callan.

Brit. /ˈkalə/, U.S. /ˈkælə/
Forms: 1600s cala, 1700s– calla.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin calla.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin calla, former reading (e.g. in 16th- and 17th-cent. editions of Pliny) at Pliny Nat. Hist. 27. 57, where the manuscript reading is calsa and modern editions read calyx calyx n.).
Originally: a plant of the family Araceae, esp. one belonging to the genus Calla or formerly included in it; also (in form Calla) the genus itself. In later use usually: spec. (a) the bog arum, Calla palustris (more fully northern calla or wild calla); (b) (in non-specialist use) a plant of the genus Zantedeschia, esp. Z. elliottiana and Z. rehmannii.Valid publication of genus name: Linnaeus Species plantarum (1753) II. 968.The genus Calla is now monotypic, represented by C. palustris, the more recent genus Zantedeschia having been split from Calla as formerly understood.
