Forms: Also Middle English bise, Middle English bys, besshe, 1500s bice.
Etymology: Origin unknown: possibly French bis dark brown. The suggestion that it is the same as bisse n.2, Old French bisse, bisce, biche ‘female deer’, hardly suits the sense, and the forms do not agree.
Obsolete.
Some kind of (? brown) fur, much used in the 15th cent. for trimming gowns, etc.
