Floating loosely, fluttering, waving. Hence in wider sense, Attached so as to have freedom of movement, hanging loose. flying jib, ‘a light sail…

Unbound, unattached. Having an end or ends hanging free. Also in figurative context. (See also loose end, n.)

Of hair, etc.: Flowing.

Of articles of dress: Streaming, loose, négligé.

Of a garment, hair, etc.: that flows or falls in loose, undulating curves. Cf. flow, v. 5.
