单词 affamish
释义

affamishv.

Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: af- prefix, famish v.
Etymology: Probably < af- prefix + famish v., after Middle French afamer, Middle French, French affamer to afflict (a person) with hunger or famine (early 12th cent. in Old French, earliest in past participle afamé ), to suffer from hunger, to starve (late 14th cent. or earlier), probably < post-classical Latin affamare to deprive of food (although this is first attested much later: 1482; < classical Latin af- , variant of ad- (see af- prefix) + fames hunger: see fame n.2). Compare Old Occitan afamar , Italian affamare (13th cent.). Compare earlier affamished adj., affamishment n., and also earlier effamish v.
