Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin admōt- , admovēre , -ive suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin admōt-, past participial stem of admovēre admove v. + -ive suffix, after French admotif (1808 in the passage translated in quot. 1819). Compare remotive adj. 3.
Botany. Now rare.
Of germination: such that the testa of the seed remains attached to the base of the cotyledon, and the seedling develops next to the seed. Contrasted with remotive.
