Etymology: < zoo- comb. form + plastic adj.With sense 2 compare Hellenistic Greek ζῳοπλαστεῖν to work into a lifelike shape, ζῳοπλαστης divine creator, Byzantine Greek ζῳοπλαστία artistic representation. In sense 3 perhaps after French zooplastique (1876 or earlier); compare earlier autoplastic adj.
