Origin: A borrowing from Pequot. Etymon: Pequot yoakheage.
Etymology: < Pequot yoakheage, cognate with Quiripi *rōhkhīk rokeag n.In β. forms perhaps remodelled after cake n. (compare nocake n.). N.E.D. (1921) spells the headword Yokeage, and gives the pronunciation as (yōu·kėdʒ) /ˈjəʊkɪdʒ/.
