1973 G. L. Waldbott Health Effects of Environmental Pollutants xviii. 226/1 In 1968 about 1000 persons in southern Japan developed darkened skin..and severe acne... The illness was named ‘Yusho’, or rice oil disease, because the patients had eaten food cooked with contaminated rice oil.
1977 Lancet 22 Jan. 176/1 Chisato Hirayama provides a chapter on the clinical aspects of yusho (oil disease), the important skin symptoms being reviewed separately.
