释义 | Yugoslavn.adj.α. 1800s Yougo-Slave, 1800s Yugo-Slav, 1800s Yugo-Slave, 1900s– Yugoslav. β. 1800s Iugo-Slav, 1900s– Jugo-Slav, 1900s– Jugoslav. A. n. 1. In early use: a member of any of various Slavic peoples of south-eastern Europe, including any or all of the Bosnians, Bulgars, Croats, Herzegovinians, Macedonians, Montenegrins, Serbs, and Slovenes. In later use usually: a native or inhabitant of the Balkan country of Yugoslavia, or (later) its former constituent republics; a person of Yugoslav descent. The Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes was proclaimed in December 1918, immediately after the First World War armistice, to unite the disparate groups of Yugoslavs; the kingdom was renamed Yugoslavia in 1929. Following the Second World War (1939–45), Yugoslavia was reformed as a federal socialist state, with six constituent republics: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia. In 1991–2 all constituent republics of Yugoslavia except Serbia and Montenegro seceded, causing the Wars of Yugoslav Succession (1991–5). The remaining part of Yugoslavia was renamed Serbia and Montenegro in 2003, and separated into two independent states in 2006. Since the break-up of Yugoslavia, terms relating to the individual independent republics have been preferred.
