单词 -mans
释义

-manssuffix

Primary stress is retained by the usual stressed syllable of the preceding element and vowels may be reduced accordingly.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps formed within English, by derivation. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: man n.1, English -s ; -ness suffix.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps < man n.1 + -s (-s suffix2 or plural ending -s); or perhaps simply a playful distortion of -ness suffix.Derivation from the Romani suffix -imen has been suggested; but since this is a marker of the past participle rather than a nominalizer, and since almost all the initial elements with which -mans is combined are of English origin and none appear to be Romani, this is unlikely. Used either as an affectionate diminutive (compare -kins suffix) or as a disguise device (the addition of extra syllables is a common feature of cryptolectal speech).
