Etymology: < wine n.1 + glass n.1 Compare (Middle) Low German, Middle High German wînglas, (Dutch wijnglas, German weinglas), etc.
a. A small drinking-glass for wine. Also = wineglassful n. at Derivatives. Wine glasses, which are characterized by having a stem and a foot, vary in shape (and, in some cases, in colour) according to the wine for which they are intended, and are distinguished as champagne glass, claret glass, port glass, etc.
