Etymology: < German Willemit (A. Levy 1830, in Neues Jahrbuch f. Mineral. 71) < the name of Willem I (1772–1843), king of the Netherlands (reigned 1815–40) + -it -ite suffix1.
Mineralogy.
A mineral, consisting of a silicate of zinc, which occurs as prisms and polycrystalline masses of various pale colours, typically greenish-yellow, and is often strongly fluorescent.Formula: Zn2SiO4. Crystal system: trigonal.
