Designating a pattern or figure exhibited by some meteorites when a cross section is exposed to acid, consisting of thin interleaving bands of iron-nickel alloys. Also: designating a similar pattern consisting of ferrite bands that sometimes occurs in steel and alloys of iron. Cf. Widmanstätten n.
