单词 | bugler |
释义 | buglern. 1. A person who plays a bugle; spec. a soldier who conveys signals or commands using a bugle.Buglers in the military were formerly often boys; in the British Army this practice persisted until 1914, after which boys were no longer permitted to go on active service. After 1914 telegraphic and (later) wireless signalling methods replaced the use of the bugle as a means of signalling on the battlefield, though the use of bugle calls to convey signals and commands to troops when in quarters continued. In the military today the role is largely ceremonial.
