buggeryn.adj.Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: bugger n.1, -y suffix3; French bouguerie, bougrerie. Etymology: Partly (i) < bugger n.1 + -y suffix3; compare -ery suffix, and partly (ii) < Anglo-Norman bugerye (c1400) and Middle French bouguerie, bouguerrie, bougrie (all 1st half of the 14th cent.), variants of Old French, Middle French bogrerie, bougrerie (French bougrerie ) heresy, anal intercourse, bestiality (13th cent.) < bougre bugger n.1 + -erie -ery suffix.Compare the following isolated attestation of the form bugrery , probably either reflecting Middle French bougrerie or a parallel formation < bugger n.1 and -ery suffix:1551 J.
