First popularized as the title of a Strauss waltz (1869). Strauss probably took it from the anon. couplet found in the Luther room at Wartburg: Wer nicht liebt Wein, Weib und Gesang /Der bleibt ein Narr sein Leben lang (see wine n.1 1f(b), quot. 1862).
