Etymology: < the name of Ernst Heinrich Weber (see Weber n.1) + the name of Gustav Theodor Fechner (see Fechner n.). Compare earlier Weber n.1With Weber–Fechner law compare German Weber-Fechnersches Gesetz (1877).
Psychology.
attributive, usually in Weber–Fechner law. Designating a law stating that the smallest perceptible increase in a stimulus is a constant proportion of the initial stimulus (also called Weber's law); (also) designating a law stating that the strength of a sensation is a logarithmic function of the strength of the stimulus (also called Fechner's law). Also: relating to either of these laws, as Weber–Fechner relation. Cf. Weber n.1, Fechner n.
