Etymology: < web n. + frame n.
1. In an embroidering machine invented by Josué Heilmann in 1828: the frame which holds the fabric that is to be embroidered. Cf. web n. 1a. Obsolete. rare.In Heilmann's machine, the frame moved the fabric into position to meet the needles, as opposed to moving the needles.
