Etymology: < wayless adj. + -ness suffix; in quot. 1874 after Old Icelandic vegaleysi lack of roads (rare).Compare Old English weglēast wilderness ( < wayless adj. + -th suffix1 2 (compare -t suffix3 2)).
The fact or condition of being wayless, esp. the lack of a clear sense of direction or purpose.
