1885 Jrnl. Peking Oriental Soc. 1 98 Plain white cups of Wan li porcelain were several taels of silver each.
1902 C. Monkhouse Hist. & Descr. Chinese Porcelain i. 36 Some of the blue is fine in colour, as in some pieces which were lent by Mr. William Agnew to the Burlington Fine Arts Club in 1895. One of them has the Wan-li mark.

1960 H. Hayward Connoisseur's Handbk. Antique Collecting 313/2 Wu ts‘ai (five-colour) wares. This generally implies the characteristic Wan Li period Chinese porcelain wares, painted in underglaze blue and enamel colours (red, green, yellow and purple).
