Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: Afro- comb. form, tropical adj.
Etymology: < Afro- comb. form + tropical adj.
Designating a zoogeographical region or biostratigraphic ecozone which includes Africa south of the Sahara, Madagascar, and the southern parts of the Arabian peninsula; of, relating to, or inhabiting this region.Formerly known as ‘Ethiopian’ (Ethiopian adj. 3), the region's epithet was formally changed after the country of Abyssinia came to be known as Ethiopia in the 1970s.
