Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: bumble v.1, kyte n.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps < bumble v.1 + kyte n., with allusion to the fact that excessive consumption of the berries can cause stomach upsets, although compare brummel , Scots and northern English variant of bramble n.1, and later bumbleberry n.1 (beside brambleberry n.).
