Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: water n., cooler n.
Etymology: < water n. + cooler n.In sense 1 translating Urdu āb-dār and its etymon Persian āb-dār servant in charge of keeping drinking water cool ( < āb water (see abkari n.) + dār-dar suffix).
1. In India during British rule: a person responsible for the cooling of drinking water. Now historical.
