Rep. Bureau Amer. Ethnol. 1916–17 xviii. 375 The way soldiers carry their knapsacks..is the general mode which the Indians adopt..for carrying burdens... The names of these articles: waiyari (Arawak),..and walishi or warishi (Carib.).

In Guyana: a type of basket carried on the back and supported in place by a headband round the forehead.
