Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements; apparently originally modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: a- prefix6, Greek κόνδυλος , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < a- prefix6 + ancient Greek κόνδυλος joint (see condyle n.) + -ous suffix, apparently originally after post-classical Latin acondylus (see quot. 1853).Compare the alternative formation acondylose (see -ose suffix1), listed in a small number of botanical glossaries:1864 P.
