Etymology: < Anglo-Norman visadmirail (Old French visamiral , French viceamiral ): see vice- prefix and admiral n. So Italian viceammiraglio, Spanish vicealmirante, Portuguese vice-almirante.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: vice-ˈadmiral.
