Etymology: Latin viāticum travelling-money, provision for a journey, neuter singular of viāticus (rare), < via way. Hence Spanish viatico, Portuguese viatico, Italian viatico, French viatique.
1. Christian Church. The Eucharist, as administered to or received by one who is dying or in danger of death.
