Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin vēnula.
Etymology: < classical Latin vēnula < vēna vein n. + -ula -ule suffix. Compare earlier veinlet n., veinulet n., and also earlier venular adj.Compare French veinule (1615 as †venule in anatomy, 1817 in botany).
1. In the circulatory system of a person or animal: a small or minor vein; (in later use) spec. a very small vein which joins continuously to a capillary. Cf. veinlet n. 1.
