单词 | bunyavirus |
释义 | bunyavirusn. Virology. Any member of the genus Bunyavirus or family Bunyaviridae of enveloped viruses with a three-segmented single-stranded RNA genome, most of which are arthropod-borne pathogens of humans and other mammals, typically causing fever or encephalitis. Also (in form Bunyavirus): the genus itself. The large family Bunyaviridae consists of five genera, Bunyavirus, Phlebovirus (including the viruses causing sandfly fever, Rift Valley fever, etc., often transmitted by phlebotomines), Nairovirus (including the viruses causing Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever, Nairobi sheep disease, etc.), Tospovirus (including tomato spotted wilt virus and several other plant viruses transmitted by thrips), and Hantavirus (Hantaan virus and other persistent rodent viruses, which can be transmitted to humans by contact with excreta, causing haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome). ΚΠ 1973 F. A. Murphy et al. in Intervirology 1 309 The following proposals are made:..(vi) that the name Bunyaviridae be considered for this family, the name Bunyavirus for the genus containing viruses of the serologic serogroup, and Bunyamwera virus as the family and genus type virus. 1984 M. J. Taussig Processes in Pathol. & Microbiol. (ed. 2) ii. 218 Another feature unique to some RNA viruses (reoviruses, bunyaviruses, orthomyxoviruses) is that the genome consists of several fragments or segments of RNA, rather than a continuous thread. 1995 Gleaner (Kingston, Jamaica) 14 June d1/5 Viral haemorrhagic fevers are a group of diseases caused by viruses from four distinct families of viruses: filoviruses, arenaviruses, flaviviruses, and bunyaviruses. 2002 Virus Res. 88 130/2 Few bunyaviruses cause serious human disease. Most that infect humans cause a relatively mild febrile illness.., rarely if ever fatal. This is a new entry (OED Third Edition, June 2008; most recently modified version published online June 2022). < n.1973 |
