Etymology: Alteration of up a daisy int., perhaps ultimately after adverbs formed with -s suffix1. Compare whoops int., oops int., whoops-a-daisy int.; although these are clearly all related, the sequence in which each arose is less clear.

1. Used to express encouragement or reassurance, typically when assisting someone (in early use esp. a child) to get up, recover from a fall, etc., or when lifting a child into the air. Cf. up a daisy int.
