Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Greek ἀδηλο-, ἄδηλος.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ἀδηλο-, combining form (in e.g. ἀδηλόϕλεβος having inconspicuous veins) of ἄδηλος not manifest or evident, unseen < ἀ- a- prefix6 + δῆλος clear (see delomorphic adj.). Compare scientific Latin adelo- (from the beginning of the 19th cent. in taxon names, e.g. Adelobranchiata (1806 or earlier)).Found in a small number of formations exemplified below. Compare also adelopode n., and also adelaster n., adelite n.
Forming adjectives designating cells, parts of organisms, etc., that are inconspicuous with regard to general appearance or some special feature.
